ISTQB Success Story – 1

Manish Agarwal works as a tester in Tech Mahindra. He recently passed his ISTQB Foundation Level exam. Manish had used our Premium Self Study Package for his preparation. After his exam we asked him few questions about the exam. The interview follows. He scored 33 questions correctly out 40 questions. He passed with flying colors. We asked him about his ISTQB.Guru Review and here are what he had to say. 

ISTQB Guru: Why did you choose to take ISTQB Exam?
Manish: I have been into testing for over 2 years now. I was learning on the job but I had no formal testing education. Developers have many options and they can go for Java or Dot/Microsoft certification. I started looking for testing related certification and found I can go for ISTQB exam.

ISTQB Guru: Which country did you take the exam from?
Manish: I took the exam from India.

ISTQB Guru: How did you prepare for your exam?
Manish: When I started my preparation I was just looking for ISTQB sample papers from Google. But it did not help much because I did not know the basics of exam. Then I downloaded the official syllabus. It helped understand what I should study. I found there are recommended books.
When I was looking for materials related to ISTQB, I found your website and was able to learn few tips and tricks about the exam. I also purchased the Premium Self Study guide. The materials are organized in such a fashion that those helped me learn the concepts quickly. Specially the flashcards which I printed in small cards for quick reference.
The premium questions were very much on the latest exam patterns. I was able to answer the exam questions because I practiced the premium question. They were very much similar with slight changes in data. I also read the guide book included in the package.

ISTQB Guru: How long did it take for you to prepare for the exam?
Manish: For me it was a dedicated 2 weeks preparation. But I would suggest to read the book well before your exam. It not only helps in exam but also you learn industry defined glossaries and standard terms.

ISTQB Guru: Did you read any particular book?
Manish: Yes, the guide book provided in your premium material.

ISTQB Guru: Which site did you refer for your preparation?
Manish: There are couple of good sites for ISTQB. This site is one such. ISTQB official site for syllabus. Some other sites for sample papers but pretty much everything is included in your package. So you don’t to look anywhere else.

ISTQB Guru: Any advice for ISTQB aspirants?
Manish: Be serious about the exam. Never rely on old ISTQB sample papers. Read a book and official syllabus properly. Learn concepts about Equivalence partitioning and Boundary Value Analysis, Statement coverage etc. Read, read and read.

ISTQB Guru: Did passing the ISTQB exam help you professionally?
Manish: I learned few things which I did not know before the exam. Also now that I have ISTQB Certification, my organization recognizes me as a professional tester. This will also help me in my future career and job searches (if ever I have to), because lots of recruiters look for this kind certification.
